Apologetics is a branch of Christian
theology that seeks to provide rational justification
for the truth claims of the Christian faith. The word
"apologetics" comes from the Greek word apologia,
which literally means "a defense." Peter
commanded us to be able to give "a ready
defense", an "answer", to everyone that
asks (1 Peter 3:15-16).
Why should I study apologetics?
1. A study of apologetics will enable
you to give a defense of the Christian faith when
God’s truths are attacked.
2. A study of apologetics will make
you a better witness and enable you to remove obstacles
to faith in those with which you come in contact.
3. A study of apologetics can help you
confirm the faith in new converts who have questions.
4. A study of apologetics can help us
recognize and refute the lies of our adversary Satan.
5. A study of apologetics will help
you as a church leader strengthen and safeguard the
minds of our people against the views of the world.
Now more than ever, Christians need to
be prepared to give a reason for the hope that is within
them. We are competing in a marketplace of ideas that is
often hostile to the Christian faith. As we share our
faith, it is easy to become frustrated by the
intellectual objections that are being raised. This is
no excuse for us to lose heart and fail to engage the
culture around us. Instead, it should drive us to better
prepare our minds and spend more time on our knees in
prayer. Apologetics will be a helpful tool in reaching
the America we live in today.
It is my prayer that you will find the
links on this page to be a valuable resource as we work
to expand God’s kingdom and bring glory to His name.
